District Seven is part of Altrusa International Inc., an international community service organization dedicated to making our communities better through service and leadership. Membership is comprised of women and men with diverse backgrounds and experience. These individuals volunteer their time, energy, and expertise to projects that focus on community betterment.
District Seven covers six Midwest states, including Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. We have 25 clubs with a combined membership of 700 active and emeritus members, all contributing efforts for making a difference in their neighborhoods and leading the way to better communities. ”
In 1921, Mamie Bass, Altrusa’s first national president, wrote the Altrusa Principals, Here are two of them: “Altrusa in the very derivation of her name is committed to the philosophy of unselfishness, of the joy of giving rather than getting, and to the search for that happiness which is based upon spiritual worthiness,” and “Altrusa believes it is not enough to be good. Altrusa must be good for something.” As a community service organization, Altrusans all over the world demonstrate these two principals by promoting volunteerism and service, focusing on literacy, youth, and other projects for their communities, and developing leadership skills.
